Yesterday it came to my attention from a video posted on YouTube by the content creator SomeOrdinaryGamers that there is a developing situation involving a Latency/Lag VPN software. This unnamed software is actually stealing account information from people and as stated in the video, this extends to millions of accounts across the entire gaming sphere.

The video can be found here for reference: You Should Change Your Password... - YouTube

One of the comments suggest people seem to be glossing over several points made in the video.

1. It is stated several times that it extends beyond COD
2. It involves more than just cheaters using cheat software provided by the company investigating the problem
3. It is alleged this involves some kind of VPN software that reduces lag/latency (as a side note it is also mentioned this software is free. The person investigating the situation seems to know what software it is, refuses to publicly admit who it is, but is in contact with some of the companies listed who have breached accounts)
4. It was covered that even Facebook has admitted to running a VPN software that steals data at the root level on devices and also confirmed by investigations
5. Ultimately free-ware is on blast in general
I have not searched for this website that contains the database of stolen accounts. I don't have the training in infosec to go looking without getting my own personal information exposed if we are dealing with a criminal malware gang. In bringing this info to the attention of the forum, I hope someone with more capability or even Pearl Abyss might be able to investigate if they are on the database and if fellow community members are in danger of account theft. In general I believe if this in fact is a problem, that a general notice should be put out to the community of this developing situation. Because this is a new development, without further investigation I wouldn't want to cause a moment of panic and thus present this as a topic for investigation. This does not appear to be a problem with a paid for service VPN that reduces lag/latency, and therefor do not want to name specific ones that I have seen promoted by content creators. If you are using a free VPN, it might be worth considering getting rid of it and doing some opsec while monitoring this situation for developments.
