Hello PA,

I in no way claim to be an apostle of the ecological transition, I'm just a player who's concerned about the impact of the gaming model adopted by BDO. This post echoes this one:

https://www.naeu.playblackdesert.com/en-US/Forum/ForumTopic/Detail?_topicNo=416&_opinionNo=6515

In which the issues were all very well explained and many solutions were suggested. Its only flaw is that it dates back to 2022.

I understand that statistics such as the number of players connected or the number of hours spent on the game are economic arguments that will undoubtedly have a major impact on your business strategy. Having said that, it's not hard to see that these figures are distorted by the mechanisms put in place in the game to encourage players to stay connected in AFK to make it easier for them to progress (I think I can even say that I'm watering down the subject, because for a player wanting to progress, the resources farmed over an active game time are quickly used up and they quickly find themselves stuck).

These mechanisms are deleterious from a player resource point of view, as we use our components such as our CPU, GPU and power supply more than we should. But also from an ecological point of view.

A game that requires us to leave our PCs on 24/7 is an energy sink, multiplied by the number of players. Even if, depending on the region, electricity can be produced in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way, it's a huge waste for the sake of statistics.

As I said earlier, in the 2022 post, many players mentioned solutions.

Please, would it be possible to review the AFK system?

These days, I don't think this kind of model is sustainable (and if it is, it's at the expense of the player's costs and the environment). We tend to be more and more concerned about the ecological impact of our actions and it seems to me that PA would have everything to gain by offering its players a new way of playing that doesn't require them to kill their components for progress and increase their electricity bill for commercial reasons.

I hope this post gets read.

Just a concerned citizen.

This isn't talked about enough, honestly. It ain't even about having to pay for said energy, it's just not okay. Governments and companies are pushing sustainability cause it's starting to be a necessity yet here we are. I love having an AFK system, but c'mon.

the afk activities are not really rewarding you can definitely skip if you are concerned about your energy usage and you aren't really set behind in any meaningful way. 5 mins of active play is worth more than whole night afk

besides in tray there is barely any usage, so when you're using the pc anyway there isn't really any additional cost

Think you're missing a lot of things here.

1.  Lifeskilling.    Fishing and horse training mostly.   Nobody is gonna do these active.

2.  Worker production halts when you're not logged in.

3.  Training dummies.

4.  Minimized to tray or not, you still gotta leave your comp running 24x7.

Take a look at BD Mobile.  They let you do offline grinding, offline fishing, offline gathering.  I can set my toon to grind a zone, log off, come back the next day and my inventory is full of loot.  Granted, there has to be limits, we can't just have people doing offline fishing for a month.

It would be nice to see them do away with the time-based login rewards even though they're not that great nor important. They should instead just give out the rewards for simply logging in or after a single hour.

A good limit for AFK activities could be having them end everyday at a certain time.  They want us to log in for bonuses right?  That's when we can restart AFK activities.  Timed bonuses could be switched to spending an hour, or setting up an AFK activity.  To log in and get things going, that could take 30-60 min.

Definitely agree. It'd be amazing to be able to do some afk activities while offline and have workers keep doing their thing as long as they're automatically fed. Personally there are lifeskills such as fishing or horse training that I never do cause it really does feels like a waste to leave my PC on just for that.

I don't care about the ecological angle whatsoever but the practicality would be nice. Server or connection issues have consistently caused hiccups that mess up your horse pathing. Or it resets your fishing and you end up with an entire night spent getting nothing.

Besides if you could just set up an afk activity and log out, it'd make it easier to play another game that has content while making money in this one.
