This topic dives into the Karma System of Black Desert Online, focusing on the automatic penalties for flagged PvP.

Current System:

  • Automatic Penalty: The current game automatically reduce the karma to the attacker, on forced PVP.

Proposed Change:

This proposal introduces a player-controlled approach to Karma penalties.  A switch in settings would allow to toggle between:

  • Automatic Penalty: The current game automatically reduce the karma to the attacker, on forced PVP. This is the current system, and would be default.
  • Manually Requested Penalty: The proposal is to allow the victim to disable automatically penalizing the attackers, so the attackers can continue the battle without loosing karma, unless the victim manually request to punish the attackers.

Benefits of Manual Request:

- Open-World PvP: Players who disable automatic penalties would not automatically reduce the karma of their attackers as it would be considered consensual open-world PvP without affecting the attacker's Karma. This fosters PvP outside Battle Arenas.

- Friendly Duels: Friends and guildmates can freely PvP without accidentally harming the Karma of the participants.

- Strategic Choice: Players can choose when to apply a Karma penalty, adding a layer of strategy to PvP interactions.

Overall Discussion:

This suggestion aims to give players more control over Karma penalties and promote engaging, consensual PvP experiences in Black Desert Online.

Let's discuss! Can we create a Karma System that caters to both PvE and PvP players?

With a control over karma penalties, as suggested in this post, players could coordinate PVP activities with either friends or random people, in any server, at any time, on any place of the map, by mutual agreements, and control over the conditions. This could be used to increase the concentual pvp activities, while allowing the filter of who is not invited to participate. With this option, players do not have the restriction of specific servers, or guild and party. This way, multiple party duels are available, and therefor, even large scale personalized player events, that would increase the activity and fun in the game.

There is no downside of this improvement. In fact, if anything, this should make concentual PVP attractive to more players, and increase the player population and participation on fun activities, and practices, that can result in more participation on the competitive pvp events.

Given that we have already had cheats where an attacker could force flagging or dueling on their victim, without any input from the victim, this would likely be wildly open to abuse.

Karma's literally the backstop in this cheating instance.

Nope. If you were to do flagging changes I would.

PvP flag should be set before you leave town.

If you attack someone that is set to off you lose karma.  That person that has it set to off can not press Alt+C to attack another player, unless the other player is negative karma or attacked them first.

If you attack someone set to enabled they will have the splotch indicating they can be attacked, that person gets a 50% drop rate increase and can press alt+C at any time.

Pressing Alt+C to attack someone keeps a person flagged until server swapped or 5 minutes of no PvP combat goes by even if they go to town to turn their flag to the off position.   Killing a person set to off will keep you flagged for at least 24 hours even in town and karma must be back in the positive column.

Manual Penalty is basically Alt+C but with the added benefit of potentially not being punished for ambushing/ganking behaviour. Since most people despise that kind of behaviour, most would opt to punish the attacker or opt into the original Automatic Penalty system thus rendering this change quite pointless.

I think if flag and attack a flagged player, you should not lose karma. Both parties consented to PvP when they flagged, so they should be able to have at it.

I don't think the replies are based on understanding what the proposal was.

1. Automatic Penalty: The current game automatically reduce the karma to the attacker, on forced PVP. There is no need to change anything.

2. Manually Requested Penalty: An option to allow the victim to disable automatically penalizing the attackers, so the attackers can continue the battle without loosing karma, unless the victim manually request to punish the attackers.

The purpose is to allow the victim to control whether to punish an attacker by reducing their karma, or not reducing their karma at all.

If that were a current issue, that requires fixing, not stopping the game's development. It would be extreme to state that because someone has abused the system, the game should not make any improovements. It's like saying that all vehicles should be removed from the planet, because some people have done bad things with them. If something like that was happening,  where someone is injecting packages, that could potentially be a server vulnerability where there is no evaluation of the request sent by the original player, that would be a bad server design to start with.
