I propose that you enable a processing mode, such as heating/grinding, to allow us to convert X amount of wood into Y amount of sap.
I understand their might be concerns around the market, so attempt to set the conversion rate at something like 6-10 wood into 1-2 sap or whatever the math comes out to based on market set points.
Potential Pros:
-removes bottlenecks on some crafts
-allows more supply of elixirs on the market. (I don't think that it will negatively affect the prices at the rates in which folks use them and might even make them more prevelent in battle)
-makes more use of wood worker nodes that don't drop saps
-allows gamers to utilize the fruits of their worker empires who don't participate in wood crates
-might incentivize more people to get into alchemy.
Potential Cons:
-maybe some economical impacts, can't see them being that substaintial
