Hey there, i am writing this post because i feel it's high time to adress an unneeded and unfair game mechanic which is the click-to-move mouse movement during combat in the game.
In this post i will list several reasons why this mechanic should be disabled while in combat stance and provide constructive feedback/insight.
(i want to aplogize in advance because know certain players will not like reading this because their class will be affected by such a change, but please read through this post in its entirety)
Reasons why it should be disabled during combat:
1. it creates extremely unnatural movement/teleporting on the receiver's end.
2. it makes certain skills achieve a mechanical advantage, resulting in an unintended way in how x skill is used.
example > NINJA's "Shadow Stomp" is a CC skill that propels you forward when you use the skill, HOWEVER with mouse movement you can manipulate this ability to where it becomes a ranged CC ability while you can also move away from your enemy in any direction you wish to go to (tried adding a picture but it won't let me)
another example is the awakening berserker's ability called "Gaint Leap" is an ability that makes you move forward or either backwards in a straight line but with mouse movement you can manipulate this ability to fly 360 degrees on the same spot.
3. it makes certain skills safe from hard commiting to them without properly thinking when to use them in certain situations
4. some classes have less accessibility for people with a disability
5. grab CC abilities are easier to control > giving you a 360 degree angle to grab
Feedback on how to change this:
1. Make it so that animation locked abilities are easier to control by adding camera movement to skills for the duration of their movement/protection
Example > Awakening Berserker's "Gaint Leap" > easier to control it's direction by just simply naturally turning your camera (left/right) creating a nearly identical experience
2. Keep the locked movement but add a protective aspect to skills while also slightly increasing their cooldown
Example > NINJA "Shadow Stomp" > add a frontal guard and increase the skill cooldown by 2 seconds from 6.0sec to 8.0sec
3. add or entirely remove camera turning to static frontal guard skills
Example > Awakening Sage "Flow - Interrogate" > is a static skill where currently you can move the frontal guard direction of this ability by simply turning the camera left or right > add/ remove this for all classes (i personally feel a static frontal guard skill should be outplayable/punishable)
i tried to keep this feedback as short, easily understandable and constructive as possible.
Leave mouse move alone, fix the more important stuff that need fixing. #Skill Issue
removing this would fix things like zerkers jumping 1 way and then teleporting another.
1. it creates extremely unnatural movement/teleporting on the receiver's end.
this alone should be enough for any dev that cares, a sign to act.
Not only PA doesnt care, pvp is a side thing in the game itself and is an issue with just few classes
In most games, intentionally creating lag for other players to give you an advantage would get you a ban. Just saying lol.
What some people can pull off with it is impressive, and it takes a lot of skill and practice. That being said, its legit an exploit and it is wild that PA has left it as is for so long. These abilities have a limited arc for a reason, removing that limitation not only removes a layer of game balance, but, in this case, provides an unfair advantage.
iirc they've done this with a couple skills, I remember guardian getting the camera turn movement for a skill sometime last year. I hope they start doing that more and we can eventually say goodbye to the current silly mouse move use cases
I agree with OP 100%. Mouse move during combat needs fixing. PA please.
I agree with @OP
Principally I agree with OP, even as an awa witchey.
... But I'm hesitant because I doubt PA would even remotely properly reimburse classes affected by such a global change...
They removed it from boats, it hasnt been noticed by many after a while. removing it from characters sounds amazing to me as it would cripple zerks to some extent, some other classes but it would actually force players to learn to play the game differently how it affects controller players? unknown dont really care
