First contact with BDO community is usually done through public chats which are pretty bad. Once you get to know better chats and find a decent guild, it's a day and night experience.
The console community is separate from the PC community.
Just remember, the Block function in the chat window is your best friend.
BDO is a game bred to create conflict in every possible area of the game. Cooperation in the open world is kept to a minimum, and competition is encouraged in every activity.
Games like these attract certain kind of players who then brew into a toxic community. Sure there are exceptions, but they're specs of light in the otherwise dark abyss.
If you want a nice community, try a game that promotes cooperation like Guild Wars 2 or Final Fantasy XIV Online.
Yes
If you left bdo cause you feel it's "toxic", then it's not your game.
Heck, no multiplayer game is for you. There are lots of great singlepalyer games, try your luck here, if interacting with others is hard for you...
Is the community still as toxic as it was? I was on PS4 before, but on PC now. Figured i'd give BDO another try.
A vocal minority will always be unpleasant in chats. But if you remove these chats, and find a nice guild, you can have much fun here, the game is still demanding and have its flaws, but it's not so bad.
If your only concern comes from the community and not from the game itself, I'd say you can ignore the morons and give it another try! ;)
Never played on console...so can't tell you as I have no idea what you consider toxic.
That said...on PC, it's mostly a single player game. Outside of guild and friendsinteractions (which will depend entirely on which guild you choose to join and who your friends are), any player interaction is likely to be negative or neutral...but these will be rare. If you can't handle that...yeah this game is toxic and not for you.

Except there are games with nice communities. Certainly nicer than what BDO has.
BDO just is at its core a PvP game, and PvP games create toxic communities.

Wrong. Toxic people make toxic communities...regardless of PvP or PvE. And the BDO community is not that bad. Yes there are ones with nicer communities of course...but PLENTY with worse ones...some of them being even PvE games.
