It has come to my attention that the Item Flame trap which is used to dismount people off of their horses, can be used to grief players with little to no repercussions because the item doesn't keep you in combat after used.
I sat and watched somebody lay the trap, turn on PvP mode, watch another player hit said trap, and then deactivate it immediately causing them to no longer be flagged.
There needs to be a delay on deactivation so that the person who is laying the trap is the aggressor before PvP mode is deactivated and they can be attacked accordingly.
This is how it is now: malicious player lays trap, activates PvP mode and waits, unsuspecting player runs over trap on their horse and is dismounted, malicious player then has the ability to immediately deactivate PvP mode and now the player who was knocked off of their horse can no longer attack them without being the aggressor.
An example scenario that was fixed would go like this. malicious player leaves the trap and activates PvP mode, Player runs over trap on horse causing the malicious player to become the aggressor in PvP mode. The malicious player is now stuck in PvP mode for.... say 30-seconds or maybe even a minute, and now the player who was knocked off the horse can attack the malicious player without being the aggressor. This means that if the player who was knocked off of the horse dies from the malicious player, the malicious player will lose karma for being the aggressor.
Currently it doesn't work this way and it really doesn't make sense as to why it would be allowed for these malicious players to interrupt the gameplay of other with no consequences. Traps and items which you need to be in PvP mode to use against other player should keep you in PvP mode, At least for as long as when you attack another player if not the already aforementioned 30-seconds.
You seem to be confused with how flagging works.
If someone Alt C's up they can not automatically be attacked by others until they physically cause Damage to someone first.
and since Flame traps do not cause any damage too the horse and rider, it does not count as a true pvp action, and therefore
Does not cause you to become attackable.
So unless you use something like a Venom trap which does cause damage *even though i havn't tested if those traps actually cause you to become flagged*
I do know for a fact flame traps only dismount and knockdown and do not deal damage and the requirement to become attackable is to deal damage.
It's the same with the Practice Matchlock if i am not mistaken, since it does not deal damage it theoretically should not cause you to become flagged, but i havn't personally done that myself, so don't take my word for that one, but regarding the flame trap thats how it works.
So Alt C does not mean you can be attacked without reprocussion, that criteria is only met AFTER you damage someone first While Alt C'd
It's simply bugged curently that's why it not puts them into red. Players who abuse this simply can be reported for exploiting.
