There is unfortunately a feature in the game where if you acquire a piece of gear that the game considers to be better than what you're currently wearing in the slot that that piece of gear goes in, it will pop up a message near the top-right of your screen and make it so that you either have to press the key it shows (the "Character Interaction" key - I think that it might be F by default, but I'm not sure, since I remapped my keys), or you have to open your inventory to make the message go away. e.g.

Presumably, the point of this feature is both to inform the player that a mob has dropped better gear and to give them the ability to equip it quickly. However, in practice, it's purely annoying. Except maybe with very low level characters, you simply don't get gear drops from mobs that you want to equip immediately. If you're grinding, the message almost never pops up, because the gear is almost never better than what you have. Either it's simply worse or requires enhancing to be better, but with the addition of Naru and Tuvala gear, most of the time, gear drops from mobs other than bosses simply aren't worth using on your character. So, when grinding (the time that the feature is presumably designed to be used for), the feature is basically useless.

However, where this feature actively becomes a problem is when gathering. Typically, you're either wearing Silver-Embroidered Gatherer's Clothes or Manos Gatherer's Clothes, and they don't exactly have the best DP. So, if you're gathering from mobs that actually drop gear (e.g. trolls when gathering troll blood), it's not uncommon that the gear that drops is "better" than what you currently have equipped. But you're gathering. You want the gathering clothes equipped, not the armor being dropped by the mobs. So, you never want to actually equip what the mobs are dropping while you're gathering - even if it were somehow something crazy like PEN Fallen God Armor. You may very well want the drop, but you don't want to equip it.

However, it's not simply a matter of the message being annoying and pointless. It's far worse than that. The message prompts you to use the "Character Interaction" key to equip the piece of gear, and that's exactly the same key that's used to gather. So, unless you see the message in time and briefly open your inventory, you will inevitably end up equipping the gear that dropped when you go to actually gather from the mob that dropped it. So, while you're gathering something like troll blood, you end up frequently having to fix which gear you have equipped, because you keep accidentally swapping gear whenever a troll drops a piece of gear.

As such, I would very much like to see this feature removed from the game. It's actively harmful rather than helpful. And if PA doesn't want to outright remove it for some reason, I would greatly appreciate it if they would at least make it an option to disable the feature in your settings.

Do you know what really happened? Some smartass thought that it's a good idea and copy pasted it into the normal game without even reading anything about people wanting it.

They still not give the slighest fuck about the palayers option in generall, neither KR, nor EU/NA. You can see countless topics from issues that are requested literately hundreds of times both on KR and EU forums and on other social medias, and they so fucking not care that they don't even bother replying with a pic with a middle finger to guys asking for:

-More imperial shit

-uncensored shais

-less RNG

-mob feeding/kamabomb

and the list goes on for long, and they don't fucking care. (And I even listed stuff that I don't care before trying to label me as biased.)

Heck, there are 400 bug reports without any kind of response. Heck they don't even bother putting them onto the know bugs. (Not like it would have any point either, they are "working on" fixing such compex and necessary features like AP reduction while raining since a half year or what?)

Back kakao at least did send a clown to copy paste some reply into the bugreport topics, though they did not bothered to fix them either, guess they didn't even sent them to PA (or they just trashed their reports instanly lmao)

But it's common occurance in games. The devs are paid to do the task assigned to them, not to interact with the players, or to play with their own game. It's just a job, they not gonna get more money if they look for ways to improve it.

There are a motived kiddo here and there who wanna be the BIG game dev... but they quickly lose their motivation in the wheel, and quickly end up not even wanting to touch the game they develop...

Skipping down to point out that this feature was from the Shadow Arena during the time that Shadow Arena was built into BlackDesert.  The community requested this feature be part of the main game, and so it was.

There is no going backwards.
The community asked for it, it was approved, and you got it.

Personally, I was not playing BDO at that time, and I most certainly did not ask for it. Regardless, I would hope that PA would be looking to make this game continuously better such that if it turns out that a new feature was a bad idea (whether it was requested by the community or not) that they would remove it or change it to improve the game. It's frequenly the case that developers of any piece of software make mistakes when adding new features, and sometimes, which features make sense or don't changes over time as other aspects of the program change.

Personally, I think that the feature is bad enough that it should just be removed, but even just adding the ability to disable it would be fantastic. Then if there actually is someone who wants it at this point for some reason (even though I really don't see how it makes any sense), they can still have it, but those of us whom it screws over can disable it. This "feature" is a major pain point when gathering from mobs like trolls.
