How about instead of breaking, they have a chance to drop to the ground as player loot based on death penalty, or transfers to the mob that got the finishing blow. If you havnt been a dick then if a player happens upon it before you reserrect, and retrive it, then they can trade it back to you. If you have been bad, then obviously its a just desert when it picked up before you return. Either way its better then breakage. Red players always drop a crystal on pk death.
Nice RMT buff idea.
The game already allows RMT. So there are far more easier and efficient ways to accomplish that, plus looted crystals cant be sold. Thats like pretending, taking crystals off your tagged character allowed unforeseen dupping...
I don't mind repurchasing crystals from the MP however the crystals I am concerned about are those crystals that are not tradeable and are quest or event rewards only and are recieved in a bound state such as Resplendent Kydict's Crystal.
Crystals such as the above cannot be purchased or traded, thus making them unbreakable (through developer editing or even some odd quest or recipie) would have no effect on the in game market or economy.
Crystals like the above are the ones that I believe should have some form of protection (against breakage) availale to players to work towards from inside the game.

For the mods and Pearl Abyss
The decision to change this is not predicated on the opinions of any of your users. It is based upon the reliable facts and impact of the current system.
Simply put, your customers under the current system will at times be unfairly penalized for things beyond the scope of their control. This will impact some customer much more than others. People located in different areas experience different ping rates and connection reliability.
This is a business decision to protect your customers from a bad experience and unfair game play. That is the #1 priority in immediately changing this situation.
This is harmful to many of your customers.
There are already plans to change the location of some of the servers to be more suitable to your general customer base. Those types of decisions are NOT made based upon a few forum opinions. They are based on the rational of making the overall game better for your customers base.
This issue should be treated in the same manner.
