I really hope you have good news for the Bal because right now it's annoying.
yes watch the trailer that looks like a spot for a new soda...
we already got the colab with a car brand, that has absolutely nothing in common with this game.
we get an darkknight figurine, you can order probably on wish.com.
and you get a new class. finally. as we all know, that a new class is the cancer of the game and makes it unplayable for a period of time. have fun rerolling. i dont understand people still hyped for new classes. i rather go back to WoW changing my gear every 3 month instead of the whole fkin charaktere. yes this is the game you still playing.
Its a pirateclass, a girl. whats fitting in since we have pirates on some islands. she will have sorc iframes, wizard aoe damage, archer range with her muskeet, maybe an iframestealth and can do damage in it. probably a Lahn grab... common guys, we all know how PA is creating classes, dont need to actually know anything...
i will buy the figurine tho, hopefully its packed discreetly.

Wow a bunch of entitled jerks, you can't play for 5 hours a week because they take the servers down, do hardware swapping for any failing pieces and then put them back up. I wonder if you realize how laggy the servers get when they are up for 2 weeks without the weekly downtime? I for one don't want to deal with that again.
What kind of ghetto data center did you work at and are they hosting BDO? That could explain a lot of things.
Joke aside, it is highly unlikely that they are running their own server farm with their domains having nothing but Amazon AWS DNS records. This is purely a deployment and software issue because they are almost certainly using cloud servers (which is fine).

Another thing to note, since they have the Heidel Ball on Saturday, they might be enabling things Friday Night or Saturday Morning that are not going to show up until then. Just because it's not in the patch notes RIGHT NOW, doesn't mean that what they added will not show up this week.

Are people actually asking for horse race content? I tried it once but it didn't seem very fun. It is any good now?
The "mario cart" mechanics are pretty abusable and its desynched to such a degree that you can finish the race 1st place on your screen and still place 5th. The desynch also causes you to slow down when ppl ride up behind you or you ride up behind ppl.
Its an okay minigame to do every now and then but atm its a bit below Good imo.

Unheard of? Do you know how much time it takes to do database backups, update server software (windows update/SCCM etc is all unreliable), update game server data etc... THEN test it? It's quite the process and since windows doesn't always update (fail), then they have to either push the patch deployment for the following week or try again which can be a 2hr process alone. Quite frankly I'm surprised there aren't as many delays as there are.

Testing? kek, you clerly have no idea about the subject.
In a competent company, the binary is already built and tested days(or even week) before the official release. No sane company yolos in the very last minute with the deployment...(apart from small garage companies with leftover employees...)
Literately they would only need to shutdown the current server, copy the binary and start the new version one.
Yeah bad architecture with loot of sphagetti code can make servers take long time to start, but there is nothing that would justify the 5hour maintance. They simply have bad release managment, and they probably don't even care.
On the grand scale it's aceptable... but trying to wash them is dumb. They ain't reinventing the wheell here... countless companies do the same, better since decades. It can be done, you just need competence for that.

If they didn't backup apply patch then test, something very very bad could happen. Like intern Bob, rather than apply a patch overwrites all the data resetting everything, so now the only backup they have is from when PA took over from Kakao resetting everyone's progress over the past 5 months. Intern Bob is fired, everyone else loses everything.
As for "windows failing to update", sometimes an update fails to apply properly and has to be reset and applied again. It doesn't matter if they use Lynxx, Windows, the Android OS, or a custom built OS for the servers, whatever version they use still doesn't always work. They are transfering thousands of terabites of data to and from the servers, just because we only see a small change on our end doesn't mean there isn't a big change on their end.

BDO has triple-A visuals and excellent combat, but an indie tier backend, it seems, because everything except the horse stuff would've been deployed in a 0 downtime hotfix in most big MMOs, and adding a minor event and some furniture really shouldn't take 6 hours to deploy. Heck, even their site was down for like 4 hours, which is something that even Alibaba resellers running their business from their bedroom don't do.
Whatever their deployement procedure is, it must be a complete mess or 10 years behind most of the industry.
You answered yourself, even if most of your post is high-school nerd talk with absolutely no clue about how backend maintenances work. If you had dev knowledge to talk about these things you'd also know what was in 3/4 of these 891 megabytes. Unpack it. Some nice new things.
Preload of summer content before the damn ball. You're right, this patch shouldn't be so big or take them that long. But literally most of this preload isn't live yet. Would you rather download 1.5GB or 3GB patch when all events start?
