I have 100 mbs down/up Fiber Internet. Im East Coast NA. Most online games I play that have servers in NA I avaerage 50 MS to. First day of logging into BDO NA under PA direct managment just to find out that the server location did not change. Correct me if im wrong but I believe they are still in San Jose Cali. My average ping to BDO NA was and now still is 100 ms. In such a fast paced game where Low Ping and HIgh FPS is rewarded this is just a huge turn off and a major push away. If there was ever a time to change to a more central location...it was now. NA is a large continent with many players spread far and wide. Its an insult not to have a central location for game servers.
Latency optimization was not during the transfer but a futur plan.
i hope that its will be VPN-Style optimization.
I tested Exitlag few week ago and i can reduce my latency by half with it. ^^
i have 80-140 ping normally, with Exitlag i drop to 45-60.
That mean that a lot of optimization can be done for the EST coast.
There are a myriad of games that only host on West and East coasts, and it's not really about connectivity, but started as a mass of leveled tier NOC points for mitigation of disasters. Some of that doesn't make sense to me to host on the coastals because of earthquakes and hurricanes, but hey... you do you, hosting sites.
Things have really moved to a regional effort and doing co-locations to select Midwest areas. I believe these are AWS servers, which just gives another reason not to have things spread out a bit for redundancy and disaster mitigation, but then we get into financial aspects which is really the bottom line for these guys. Cheapest is best.
Ah I remember when Texas was used for a lot of game servers since its sorta in the center lol but now its either in Chicago, some where in Cali and I cant remember where the other major hub is
EU server changed
I'm hoping we can get central servers, trying to pvp this game in NY is rough! make it happen pearl abyss
